Dog lovers and nature lovers gather to raise funds

BAGUIO CITY  — Local organizations in Baguio city partnered up in order to raise funds for the improvement of the City Veterinary Office. The Junior Chamber International Baguio Sunflower, together with the Citizens League for Animal Welfare and Safety (CLAWS),  Pines City Dog Lovers (PCDL), Cordillera Animal Protection Advocates (CAPA), Outstanding Students of the Cordillera Administrative Region (OSCAR), and Baguio Ploggers Community, organized a Pack Walk and Plogging For A Cause.

The activity came into being after CLAWS brought attention to the need of a CCTV in the dog pound. The pack walk not only garnered funds for the CCTV installment, but it also raised awareness among the local community’s dog owners about the issue. Meanwhile, OSCAR suggested the inclusion of a plogging activity to clean up our surroundings. Together, all the organizations above were able to conduct an activity for both dog and nature lovers.

The outdoor activity started at Panagbenga Park and had about thirty citizens, with their fur babies, in attendance — all following COVID-19 protocols. While the dogs enjoyed some socialization and cool air, their humans picked up trash along South Drive and Park Road. The pack included dogs of all shapes and sizes, with even a dog adopted after being rescued happily trotting along. The walk ended at Wright Park, where advocates and veterinarians shared their knowledge about pack walks, dog vaccinations, and proper dog care. The vets even gave free consultations to the doggos in attendance. Flyers containing information about rabies and free rabies vaccine stubs provided by the City Veterinary Office were also distributed. The collaborative effort of local organizations, government, and members of the community made for a fruitful day indeed.  Contributor photo
