CHSO reports 26 barangays with dengue clusters
For the past four weeks, a total of 26 out of the Summer Capital’s 128 barangays have had clusters of dengue cases according to City Health Services Office (CHSO) head Dr. Rowena Galpo.
In the regular management committee of local officials, June 21, led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong at City Hall, she said these barangays are Bakakeng Norte with 26 cases; Irisan, 24; Loakan Proper, 19; Bakakeng Central, 15; Kias, 14; San Luis Village, 13; SLU-SVP Housing Village, 13; Asin Road, 10; Lucnab, 8; Pacdal, 7; Camp 7, 7; and Pinget, 6 cases.
Others are Country Club Village, 5 cases; Pinsao Proper, 5; Pinsao Pilot Project, 5; Dontogan, 5; San Vicente, 5; Lower Quirino Hill, 4; Gibraltar, 4; South Central Aurora Hill, 4; Fairview Village, 4; Balsigan, 3; Lower Rock Quarry, 3; Engineer’s Hill, 3; Saint Joseph Village, 3; and Guisad Central barangay, 3 cases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) website describes dengue as “a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. The primary vectors that transmit the disease are Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and, to a lesser extent, Ae. Albopictus.”
Dengue signs and symptoms include fever, headache, rashes, joint pains, vomiting, fatigue and pain behind the eyes.
Galpo said that anyone experiencing these symptoms should immediately consult medical professionals at their nearest health centers, clinics or hospitals.
On June 23, the Mayor rallied the ‘troops’ composed of local government employees and police personnel during the Summer Capital’s launching of “Denguerra Day Thursday (War Against Dengue)” at the City Hall grounds.
He said the activity shows the city’s serious resolve to combat this latest health threat and encourages all residents to join in a united and concerted effort against the deadly disease caused by infected mosquitoes.
The anti-dengue campaign will be conducted every Thursday until July subject to extension if necessary and is spearheaded by the CHSO with Sanitary Division head Engr. Charles Bryan Carame as dengue program coordinator.
The first batch of participants were deployed to several heavily-infected barangays to do Oplan Taob/ Search and Destroy mosquito breeding sites together with the Anti-Dengue Brigade of each barangay. – Gaby B. Keith
