DPWH told to fast track road projects to ease traffic congestion in city

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that ongoing road widening projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has contributed to the recent traffic congestion being experienced in the Summer Capital.

“We are currently communicating with the DPWH to fasttrack the completion of road improvements in order to ease the city’s traffic problems,” the Mayor said.

Magalong said a lot is being done to ease the city’s traffic problem and disclosed that the DPWH has assured him of the speedy completion of its various road projects.

If these projects are finished, the public would be relieved from enduring traffic jams especially in some parts of the city, the Mayor said.

Baguio City Police Office Traffic Enforcement Unit Deputy chief PLt. Hector Sianen disclosed that Police Dir. PCol. Glenn Lonogan has assigned more personnel to help ease the flow of vehicles in various traffic choke points in the city, weeks ago.

Earlier, Magalong reminded local contractors to keep their project sites clean and orderly in order not to add to traffic woes and also ensure the public’s safety.

Other than the widening of several major roads and a proposed plan to put-up multi-level and modular parking in strategic sites , residents and visitors with cars have also been encouraged to use public transport, bicycles or even walk which would lessen the number of vehicles in the streets to ease traffic congestion.

One of the city government’s 16-point core agenda that was formulated during Magalong’s first term as Mayor is aggressive traffic management. – Gaby B. Keith
