Designs for Wright Park development plan projects near completion

Designs for a P50 million horse stable structure and P30 million arts and crafts center that will rise at Wright Park are currently being finalized by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) and City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) and will soon be put for bidding.     

In her report during the regular management committee meeting of city officials, June 7, led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, CPDO head Arch. Donna Rillera-Tabangin said the projects are part of the Wright Park Master Development Plan that commenced earlier this year.     

Also included in the master plan is the ongoing P20 million rehabilitation of the Wright Park oval and its immediate environs where residents and visitors ride horses usually accompanied by pony boys.      

“This will ensure that the pony boys and their horses are safe and comfortable, including residents and tourists visiting the area,” Tabangin explained.       

Wright Park is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Summer Capital drawing thousands of visitors annually.    

She said the multi-million projects are funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that also includes the necessary landscaping of the project sites for the aesthetic benefit of residents and tourists alike.     

The stable structure will house at least 33 stables for horses and around 100 stalls for vendors and other amenities while the arts and crafts center will include a souvenir shop and art exhibit area for local artists, among others, Tabangin disclosed.   

The design team is spearheaded by Archs. Sheena Faith Carreon and Juanito Pasiliao Jr. both of the CPDO.      

Tabangin said the completion of the redevelopment of Wright Park is targeted by the end of this year. – Gaby B. Keith
