More city employees to undergo incident command system training

More city government employees will undergo training on the basic Incident Command System (ICS), a disaster response tool that coordinates the actions of all response groups and agencies such as the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils.

Another batch of employees from the different departments are set to be trained by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) led by officer-in-charge Antonette Anaban on June 6-8, 2022.

The same training was held last April 20 to 22  joined by 20  City Hall employees and more planned later this year.

Anaban said that following the enactment of RA 10121 or the Philippine DRRM Act of 2010, the Philippine government has taken a proactive approach in managing disaster consequences and reducing disaster risks by institutionalizing various mechanisms including the ICS.

“ICS is a standardized, on-scene, all-risk incident management concept that allows users to adopt an integrated organizational structure to match the complexities and demands of single or multiple incidents without being hindered by jurisdictional boundaries,” she explained.

The activity is in line with the city government’s 16-point core agenda that includes efficient disaster management.

She earlier reported on the CDRRMC’s  2022 first quarter accomplishments including the  installation of 60 units of WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) facilities last March in the city’s various schools, barangays, district health centers and government offices costing P2 million from the Congressional fund under KALAHI-CIDSS (Kapit-Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services). The CDRRMC is chaired by Mayor Benjamin Magalong with City Mayor’s Office chief of staff Engr. Felipe Puzon as action officer. – Gaby B. Keith
