City sustains medical assistance for Baguio folk
The city government continues to provide medical assistance to bonafide residents of the city who need this support for the treatment of their illnesses.
City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) officer-in-charge Liza Bulayongan disclosed that 385 individuals availed of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) amounting to more than P1.6 million while 215 clients accessed the medical assistance funds of city officials at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) amounting to more than P550,000 during the first quarter of this year.
Further, she added that these clients were also referred to the different partner government and private entities for additional assistance to allow them to avail of needed medical services from various health facilities for the treatment of their illnesses.
Last year, the CSWDO served 5,172 clients of the AICS, disbursing more than P23 million mostly funds from various partner agencies and national officials.
Under the AICS, and pursuant to the mandate of the Mandanas-Garcia doctrine, the CSWDO official explained that the local social welfare and development office will take charge of providing assistance to the bonafide residents of the city while the AICs funds in the DSWD regional offices will be used for the assistance to individuals coming from outside the concerned local government.
Moreover, individuals seeking medical assistance from the AICS can avail of a maximum of P6,000 for purposes of medication.
On the other hand, some 7,788 local government food packs and 7,488 DSWD food packs or a total of 15,276 food packs were distributed to some 5,514 clients where majority of them were those afflicted with the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019, especially during the first 2 months of the year and those in crisis situations.
According to her, some 5 clients accessed the Balik Probinsya Program with more than P24,000 given for their transportation in going to their respective provinces for good after their sources of livelihood in the city were affected by the ongoing pandemic.
However, Bulayongan stipulated that for the succeeding months, the city will be receiving clients coming from other regions because of the ongoing implementation of the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program where the city was piloted as an area for the implementation of the program.
She explained that the city received and assisted 1 family from Manila who decided to stay for good in the city.
She urged individuals availing of the medical assistance from the CSWDO to ensure that their documents are complete for the immediate processing of the financial assistance. – Dexter A. See
