CSWDO reports 29 VAWC cases in city during first quarter of 2022
There were 29 reported cases of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) in the Summer Capital during the first quarter of this year according to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
CSWDO administrative officer IV Nestor Mestito said that in order to address gaps in the reporting system of VAWC cases, his office under acting head Liza Bulayungan, partnered with other agencies to come up with a unified VAWC and Child Abuse database.
This will ensure that all cases are attended to and accounted for at all levels from the barangay, hospital and police, he explained.
Meanwhile, Mestito disclosed that 2,815 senior citizens in the city were granted social pensions from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) amounting to P5,000 per month on March 1 to 3, 2022.
He revealed that 26 nonagenarians (90 to 99 years old) were given cash assistance of P10,000 from the city in compliance with city ordinance number 84, series of 2019.
During the period, three centenarians (all females) were honored by the city and given a cash award of P100,000 each from the DSWD and P20,000 each from the city government aside from receiving certificates of recognition.
Mestito said they also shared their secret of longevity which is having a healthy lifestyle free from harmful vices and stress. – Gaby B. Keith
