Baguio SP accomplishments, reported
Vice-Mayor Faustino Olowan said members of the city council passed a total of 31 ordinances and 162 resolutions from January 3 this year to present, including an ordinance institutionalizing the Saleng Festival in the Summer Capital.
During the flag-raising rites at City Hall, April 18, he said the august body also conducted five public consultations through its various standing committees and monitored and evaluated 14 existing ordinances and resolutions during the period.
Other salient legislation adopted include the parking ordinance that prescribes general guidelines to be followed by all barangays when crafting their own parking policies; an ordinance creating the Baguio City Historical Council for the proper accounting of the city’s rich history and recording of significant events; and a measure creating the Gawad Lingap Program that aims to address the alarming dropout rates and granting financial assistance to qualified students.
An ordinance institutionalizing the Baguio City Cooperative and Development Council to further empower cooperatives in the city; a measure creating the Community-Based Peer Teaching and tutorial program for local students that encourages and engages the community in helping learners who are struggling academically.
Olowan said an ordinance was also adopted fortifying the implementation of the School of Living Tradition in the city’s schools providing an avenue for students to study Cordilleran cultural practices; and an ordinance expanding the city’s programs against the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS).“The city council shall continue to produce good results for the best interest of our beloved city and its people,” the Vice Mayor said. – Gaby B.
