City observes ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ on April 9
Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Rep. Marquez Go will lead other officials including veterans of World War II in the city’s observance of ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ (Day of Valor) this Saturday, April 9, starting 8 am, at the Veterans Park, along Harrison Road.
“Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Inspirasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino”, is this year’s chosen theme.
Delivering the event’s keynote address is Marcial Guinatang, 2nd Baguio District President of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, with the Mayor giving the welcome address and Day of Valor message.
Lone Baguio Rep. Go will also deliver his Day of Valor message.
The program will include the singing of the National Anthems of the United States of America and the Philippines led by the Philippine Military Academy marching band and Baguio City Hall choir followed by wreath-laying rites, sounding of ruffles , three volleys of fire (21 gun salute), and taps.
An invocation will also be delivered by the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office while the singing of the Cordillera and Baguio hymns will be led by the PMA marching band and Baguio City Hall choir. Araw ng Kagitingan is an official regular nationwide holiday and commemorates the fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during World War II. – Gaby B. Keith
