76 gamblers, cockfighters nabbed in Cordillera in a month
CAMP MAJOR BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – (March 2, 2021) – For the month of February, 76 individuals were arrested for various illegal gambling activities as a result of the Police Regional Office Cordillera’s campaign against illegal gambling in the region.
In Abra, two cockfighting activities were busted by the police resulting to the arrest of 11 individuals and the confiscation of assorted cockfighting paraphernalia and a bet money worth Php 500.00. Moreover, two games of cards were also caught wherein seven were arrested and decks of playing cards and bet money worth Php 2,358.00 were confiscated.
In Apayao, police arrested a collector for an EZ-2 game, confiscated improvised EZ-2 forms, Php 1,580.00 bet money, and one motorcycle. Five individuals were likewise caught in a cockfighting activity along with Php 4,000.00 pot money and assorted cockfighting paraphernalia confiscated.
In Baguio, two operations led to the arrest of 17 individuals for playing card games. Likewise, police confiscated a total of Php 4,783.00 worth bet money and assorted gambling paraphernalia.
In Benguet, 27 individuals were caught in a cockfighting activity while Php 3,200.00 worth of bet money and five jolo roosters were seized. A separate operation yielded six arrests along with the confiscation of Php 2,590.00 bet money and z deck of playing cards. Also, police arrested one bookie and confiscated Php 1,810.00 cash and illegal number game paraphernalia.
Moreover, in Kalinga, two individuals were arrested for being bookies in an illegal number game while Php1,400.00 cash and various illegal gambling paraphernalia were seized.
In total, Cordillera police conducted 13 anti-illegal gambling operations that yielded a total of 76 individuals arrested along with the confiscation of cash amounting to Php 22,221.00 and assorted illegal gambling paraphernalia.
Cases for violation of PD 1602 (Illegal Gambling) were already filed for all the arrested suspects.(PROCOR RPIO)
