7.8k Sinovac, 10k AstraZeneca doses delivered in CAR

BAGUIO CITY, March 9 (PIA) – – More Coronavirus Disease vaccines are made available for health workers in Cordillera with the arrival early this morning of 7,800 vials of Sinovac and 1,000 vials of AstraZeneca vaccines from the National Task Force COVID – 19 National Vaccination Operations Center.
The newly delivered 7,800 Sinovac vaccine(1 dose per vial) will serve as the second dose for the for the first batch of 7,800 vials delivered last March 4 that are now being used in the vaccination rollout in all provinces and cities in Cordillera.
The1,000 AstraZenica vaccine with a total of 10,000 doses (one vial is equivalent to 10 doses) can also cover the two doses needed by 5,000 health workers.
Vacinees must get the same vaccine for their 2 – dose vaccination requirement.
Department of Health Center for Health and Development – Cordillera (DOH – CAR) Regional Director Dr. Ruby Constantino reported in the Regional Task Force COVID – 19 meeting that the Astra Zeneca will be used for health workers who are not eligible for the Sinovac and those who are not covered by the initial vaccination rollout.
With the Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines, 12,800 eligible population in the region can be inoculated. First in the priority list are the health workers in public and private hospitals and infirmaries, next are health workers on COVID – 19 Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facilities , then those working in primary care facilities such as district health centers, rural health units and barangay health stations, Constantino said.
The regional vaccination rollout started in Baguio Baguio City last March 5; then Benguet and Mountain Province followed in March 6; Kalinga on March 7, and Ifugao and Abra in March 8. Apayao is expected to start the vaccination activities tomorrow.
The DOH – CAR Regional Vaccination Operation Center records show that as of March 8, or the fourth day of the rollout, 27 out of the 59 hospitals and infirmaries in the region already started their vaccination activities.
So far, there are already 2,261 eligible population vaccinated with the Sinovac vaccine, where 1,074 are from Baguio City, 406 from Benguet, 340 from Mountain Province, 150 from Kalinga, 131 from Ifugao and 160 from Abra. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
