2025 Marks a Year of Growth for the Bright Leaf Awards

The 18th Bright Leaf Awards inspires a season of growth in this year’s call for submissions.

BAGUIO CITY – The 18th Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards has launched its caravan today March 17, 2025 at Hill Station, Casa Vallejo, Upper Session Road.

This year’s theme, “Inspiring Growth,” celebrates and uplifts the blossoming of talent in agriculture journalism through the years.

The Bright Leaf Awards, annually initiated by PMFTC Inc. showcases the bountiful work from agricultural journalists by shining a spotlight on the best agricultural stories nationwide.

The Bright Leaf Awards caravan last visited Baguio in 2019. Among areas where the Bright Leaf caravan visits, journalists from Baguio lead the way in the number who have already expressed interest in joining.

Baguio has truly exhibited the city’s talent at previous Bright Leaf Awards. Previous winners Frank Cimatu, Edgardo “EV” Espiritu, Karlson Lapniten, David Chan Leprozo, Rose Maleckchan, Harley Palangchao, and Oriental Leaf Awardees Mau Victa and Andy Zapata all hail from Baguio.

Ms. Marilou Guieb, Baguio native and one of the winners of last year’s edition, was previously awarded in 2012 and 2013. She joined the Bright Leaf Awards after a long absence and received her 3rd win in 2024.

This year, Bright Leaf Caravans will also be held in specific locations in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao to inspire emerging and returning agricultural journalist, community members, and stakeholders to participate in the competition.

Over the years, the Bright Leaf caravans have visited over 15 cities nationwide and reached over 1,000 agriculture journalists from all walks of life.

Journalists nationwide are encouraged to submit entries to the following categories:

  • Agriculture Story of the Year
  • Tobacco Story of the Year
  • Agriculture Photo of the Year
  • Tobacco Photo of the Year
  • Best Agriculture Television Program /Segment
  • Best Agriculture Radio Program/Segment
  • Best Agriculture News Story – National
  • Best Agriculture News Story – Regional
  • Best Agriculture Feature Story – National
  • Best Agriculture Feature Story – Regional
  • Best Story in Tobacco Products Alternatives
  • Best Online Story

There is no entry fee to join the competition. Journalists and photographers may submit as many entries for consideration. However, an entry may not be submitted in more than one category. Entries should be published, aired, or broadcast anywhere in the Philippines between September 1, 2024 until August 31, 2025.

The deadline for entries is September 1, 2025.

Entries may be in English or any of the Philippines languages. For entries that are not in English, participants will need to submit an English translation.
